"In this world of constant change, the only
sustainable competitive advantage is the organization's capacity to
learn."
Wood pulp is the chief raw material of paper and a basic element in a
host of other products.
The pulping process can be categorized into mechanical and chemical
processes. The raw material fibre is classified into two categories - softwood
and hardwood.
Softwoods have longer fibres than hardwoods and thus produces paper
with greater tear and tensile strength required for the manufacture of
fine paper.
For manufacturing paper and board, the type of mixture of pulp employed
will determine the character of the finished product.
Mechanical Pulps
Three mechanical processes, may be used to break down solid wood into
its fibres.
- Groundwood,
- Refiner
- Thermomechanical (TMP)
Chemical Pulps
Chemical pulping processes uses a combination of chemicals, heat and
pressure on wood chips converted from logs.
- Sulphate or Kraft Pulp, Sulphite Pulp and Dissolving and Special
Alpha Pulps.
- Bleached Semi-bleached and Unbleached.
